Waterphone (invented by Richard Waters)
The waterphone is an instrument with metal rods are played by a bow (or plucked, or hit with a mallet) to make different pitches. Water inside the middle tube bends the sound to give strange effects, and its structure allows for every note to ring out for long periods of time.
You may recognize this as the eerie sound when someone walks into an empty room in a horror movie.
